Originally opened in 1971, the Crucible reopened after a £15.3 million redevelopment in February 2010.
The Crucible is the main stage for their in-house produced work as well as hosting the annual World Snooker Championships. The performance area is a thrust stage which extends into the auditorium, enabling the audience to watch action on three sides. No member of the audience is ever further than 22 metres from the stage.
Sheffield Theatres Box Office is located here. In the lower foyer is an archive area featuring items from previous shows.
Prices vary for each show with concessions and group rates available for each. Contact the Box Office for more information or visit the website www.sheffieldtheatres.co.uk.

Train and Coach
Sheffield is well connected by train and coach. The Theatre is 5-10 minutes walk from the train station and the coach station nearby. Leave the train station, cross the road and walk straight up Howard Street, by Sheffield Hallam University (this area is currently undergoing major re-development). The Millennium Galleries are at the top of the hill. Walk up the obvious ramp to the right of the gallery entrance and continue along Surrey Street until Tudor Square and the theatres appear on your right.
Bus and Tram
The nearest bus stops are on Arundel Gate (50m) and High Street (300m). There are two Supertram Stops in close proximity to the Theatres; Castle Square and Cathedral (400 m).
Drop Off Point
A drop off point for customers with access difficulties is available on Tudor square and allows direct access to both Crucible and Lyceum buildings. Entrance to the drop off point is via Surrey Street and is available from 1 ½ hours before the performance.
There are eight disabled parking spaces available on Surrey Street outside the library and a further two on Norfolk Street. These are unreserved and operate on a first come, first served basis. Alternatively, Orange/Blue badge holders can park on single yellow lines (or double yellow lines, providing they are not causing an obstruction). There are 2 levels of access spaces in the Q-Park car park on Charles Street.
