Road Closures
Road closures will be kept to a minimum, but it is anticipated the closures will be between in place for between 10 and 12 hours across the majority of the route.   Special arrangements will be made to allow emergency services to use these roads.    Roads which are within the control of Sheffield City Council will be closed between approximately 07:30 to 19:30 except for the area around the finish line.

You can download road closure information with specific times for sections of the route, and use this interactive map to view the road closures and plan an alternative journey.   (When you click through to the map, use the 'click to change the layers displayed' option, then select Stage 2 along with any other elements of the information you require)

The longest road closure period is likely to be in the Attercliffe area, around the final few miles of Stage 2.  Road closures in this area, particularly around the Motorpoint Arena are likely to be from 18:00hrs on Saturday 5th July.

To bring people's attention to the need to plan journeys in advance 'Road Closed' signs have been placed across Sheffield.   These are advanced warning signs only, not and indication of the road the sign is seen on, actually being closed.

Road closures are being put in place in accordance with the provisions of Section 16A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.     A copy of the proposed order can be downloaded here.

Travelling through Derbyshire will also be difficult, particularly via the A57 towards Manchester as there is no through access at Glossop.   Roads in that area are controlled by Derbyshire County Council and you'll find more information here

The Highways Agency controlled road closures - A616 & A628 will also affect routes between Sheffield and Manchester.   Details of the Highways Agency closures can be seen here.

If you run a business in Sheffield, which may be affected by the road closures, you might find this business continuity information useful.

List of Roads to be closed by Sheffield City Council

To help with your planning, you can download a full list of roads which will be subject to closure notices.  Only roads which form part of the route, and side roads where they connect with the route will be closed. Road closures relate to vehicles only.

Pedestrians and cyclists will be able to use closed roads until just before the promotional caravan and the cyclists arrive.

The legend used on the downloadable maps (Maps 5, 6 & 7) show these areas, colour coded by the timings of the road closures.  The legend is based on OS mapping which includes all A-catergory roads marked in red, and motorways marked in blue.      A-category roads which are not part of the route are not subject to road closures   (For instance, Sheffield Parkway, the A57 Manchester Road, Sheaf Street in the city centre are not closed) and the M1will remain open.
