Sheffield has built on its manufacturing heritage and is now home to numerous world-class companies developing cutting-edge manufacturing techniques to drive forward new innovations in advanced manufacturing, light-weighting and materials production.

These companies are supported, fed and developed through the prestige and prowess of our two Universities, which are both phenomenal centres in their own right. So much so that the University of Sheffield recently took the lead as the highest funded institute in the UK.

The AMRC site has been a significant driver for this - but so too have the students, apprentices, staff and management of companies such as Boeing, Airbus and McLaren Automotive, as well as local companies like SCX, who have brought technological world-firsts to places like Tottenham Hotspur’s cutting-edge new stadium.

And as if all that wasn’t enough, the Materials and Engineering Research Institute at Sheffield Hallam University had the quality of their research confirmed by the results of the national Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014, in which 56% of the submitted research received the prestigious 4* and 3* rating as world-leading and internationally excellent.

This is what Made in Sheffield sought to bring together when it was established - a globally recognised brand mark that highlights the incredible breadth of what Sheffield encompasses in this industry.
