HS2 Sheffield Station Location: Information for Businesses

The Government recently announced its initial preferred route for High Speed Rail 2 (HS2) which will include a stop at Sheffield.  Sheffield City Council welcomed this announcement as it presents a real opportunity for the UK’s cities and their surrounding areas, offering a modern, world-class, efficient and dynamic transport system that will support prosperity and productivity across the UK.

In order to maximise the economic impact of High Speed Rail in Sheffield City Region, it is important that the station is located where it can create the most value. The Government’s initial preferred station location for Sheffield is at Meadowhall.  However, a study commissioned by the Council and South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive suggests that a city centre based station could generate up to £5 billion more than a station located at Meadowhall.

Sheffield City Council will continue to work constructively with Government and put forward the case for a city centre based station.  A business briefing outlining more detail on HS2 as well as the economic rationale for a city centre based station is available to download h?ere.

More information on HS2 can be found on the Council’s website here.
