The Light welcomed as cinema operator for The Moor

05 February 2014

Scottish Widows Investment Property Partnership Trust has agreed The Light to be the cinema operator in phase two, the 200,000 sq ft retail and leisure scheme, of the redevelopment of its Sheffield project - The Moor.

The new cinema will have nine screens and is due to open in late 2015/early 2016 alongside Primark, four additional shops and seven restaurants.

Phil Dove, general manager of The Light Cinemas, said: "All of our cinemas are in different places, so they are all individual - we don't have a standard formula, we work with the community to create something unique that they own and love.

"Our recently opened cinema in New Brighton - The Light on the Wirral - has surpassed all expectations and has quickly become the social venue for the area.

"We always include a range of food and beverage offers catering for a wide range of tastes that will attract local people, whether or not they want to see a movie. That's the secret of our success."

Ranald Philips, director at Ashcroft, development managers for SWIPPT said, "We have already seen prime retailers such as Primark and TJ Hughes sharing our confidence in The Moor as the only retail location in Sheffield that can currently offer the quality of floorspace and environment that they require in today's market.

"Now we are delighted to welcome a dynamic cinema operator to drive the leisure element of our investment plans. With them will come contemporary restaurants and we are currently speaking to leading names in the sector. Our vision is becoming a reality. Along with the new retail that has now taken hold during 2013, the Moor will provide an all day leisure hub for Sheffield's city centre which will also boost its evening economy."
