Sheffield is set to recognise its footballing heritage this summer with the launch of an international tournament that is promising to bring the global stars of the future to the Steel City.

The Youdan Trophy is celebrating the oldest football tournament in the world - the Youdan Cup that pre-dates the FA Cup by a full four years and was played only once at Bramall Lane in 1867.

Sheffield-based, which is the world's leading independent authority and education platform for match officials, are behind the creation of the tournament that is set to see invited youth teams at under 14 level from as far away as Australia competing.

The weeklong competition will take place from Monday 27 July - Friday 31 July , with a Grand Final set to take place take place at Bramall Lane on Friday  31 July  APPLY FOR FREE TICKETS HERE

The original Youdan Cup was the brainchild of Thomas Youdan - a self-made Victorian who was behind Sheffield's celebrated Alexandra Theatre.

The colourful entrepreneur and philanthropist donated the trophy and prize money for the world's first cup competition that was played between 12 teams from the Sheffield area. The final was played at Bramall Lane and won by Hallam FC on March 5th, 1867, in front of 3,000 people.

The Youdan Trophy is set to recreate this historic event and organisers have a host of FREE tickets to give away to the Grand Final at Bramall Lane on Friday 31 July.
