Let’s Make Sheffield the #BestGBTwitterShop
23 August 2016
Let’s help Sheffield's independent businesses by letting Twitter know how great our local shops are.
On Monday, High Streets Minister Andrew Percy announced a new category for the most social media savvy shop as part of theGreat British High Street competition. With backing from Twitter, they are on the search to find the top independent shops that are using social media to drive customers to their local high street and support their local community.
To promote the great local businesses we have in Sheffield, anyone can nominate entrants in the ‘Best Shop on Twitter’ category ‘by simply sending a tweet using the hashtag #BestGBTwittershop!
Why should you do this? The winner will receive a special prize - one thousand pounds' worth of advertising credit, as well as a trip to Twitter UK's London Office to further boost their digital skills.
High Streets Minister Andrew Percy said: “Our local high streets remain the life and soul of towns, villages and cities across the country. Last year’s Great British High Street competition was a massive success, with a record number of entries, hundreds of thousands of votes cast and winning high streets reporting an increase in shoppers.
“This year’s competition is set to be bigger and better with new categories including the best shop on Twitter, to showcase how the very best high streets across the country are adapting to the digital world.”
Director of Strategic Innovation at Twitter UK, Dan Biddle said: "Lots of us are lucky to have amazing independent shops on our local high street and while they're often hidden gems, many are using Twitter in brilliantly innovative ways to connect with customers and let even more people know about them.
"Digital skills are so important for small businesses so if you love your local shop and think it's worthy of this brand new award, we'd love to hear from you - just Tweet #BestGBTwittershop and your shop's @ handle to enter them into the competition."
The competition is now in its 3rd year, celebrating the great work that is being done to revive, adapt and diversify the nation’s high streets. As an addition to the competition in 2016, they are also searching for the best store manager or employee from an independent retailer, with the winner receiving a share of the £10,000 prize fund.
The deadline for entries is Friday 9 September and the top 3 shortlisted will be announced in October. They will then go through to a public online vote and places will be visited by the Future High Streets Forum judging panel made up of industry leaders from across retail, property and business.
