Shining the light on Sheffield's strength - join us a 15 November to learn more

Businesses will have the chance to learn about what Sheffield and the wider region has to offer at a day event of city tours hosted by The Year of the Making Sheffield 2016 and affiliated partners, on Tuesday 15th November.
Sheffield City Region, which stretches South Yorkshire, Derbyshire and North Nottinghamshire and houses 1.8 million people and 700,000 jobs, has a lot to offer businesses. Home to the UK's first Advanced Manufacturing District bringing researchers and makers together, the city is a leader in manufacturing innovation, attracting industry and businesses who want access to cutting edge technology, research facilities, supply chains, routes to market and the world's leading experts in their field. It is a city of makers and one of the greenest city's in Europe where residents can enjoy big city life with the outdoors.
Showcasing what the region does best, these tours will guide business leaders around the University of Sheffield's Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre as well as Sheffield's outdoor businesses. It will also give companies the chance to learn about Sheffield's city centre developments and see the work of the city's makers at the Made in Sheffield Exhibition at Millennium Gallery.
Meeting at 10am outside The Sheffield Hallam University Student Union on Paternoster row, businesses can learn more about the UK's first Advanced Manufacturing District, which operates some of the largest and most advanced manufacturing equipment available in the world. The tour will last roughly two hours and will highlight Sheffield's strength in advanced manufacturing.
For those companies wanting to find out why Sheffield is the UK's Outdoor City, why it matters to the city's economy and what is planned to grow the signature sector, The Outdoor City tour will ex-plain all of this over a two hour tour. With a meeting point outside The Sheffield Hallam University Student Union on Paternoster row at 10am, attendees will take in some of Sheffield's leading outdoor businesses and experience the unique juxtaposition between urban and rural life in Sheffield.
With lots of exciting city centre developments on the horizon, Simon Ogden, Head of City Regeneration at Sheffield City Council will also be hosting a walking tour of the city centre, starting on the steps of Sheffield's City Hall at 10am. Throughout the two hour tour, current and future planned regeneration projects will be discussed with the chance for businesses to ask any questions.
The Made in Sheffield Exhibition will be open to those wanting to learn about the makers of the city. Hosted tours will run at 10am and 11am at the Millennium Galleries, Arundel Gate, Sheffield. Business Leaders in the Sheffield City Region and those outside the city are encouraged to attend these free tours to really learn about this fantastic city.
The morning events will be followed by the Year of Making showcase at the Crucible Theatre 3-5pm, for an afternoon that celebrates innovation, creativity, performance and our ability to make things brilliantly. The day will be rounded off by an informal supper, giving businesses the chance to network with the making community, at Tamper on Arundel Street.
