Sheffield hosts Third National Dietetic GI Symposium

Last week Sheffield played host to third National Dietetic GI Symposium, held at the Crowne Plaza Royal Victoria Hotel, on Friday 18 June.  

The meeting utilised the latest in hybrid technology to offer delegates the option of attending in person at the Sheffield venue or virtually, attracting more than 800 registrations from across the UK.

As business events start to make a welcome return to venues across the city, more event organisers are choosing a hybrid format such as this, offering the best of both worlds to suit all delegate needs.

The hybrid technology for this event was provided by Sheffield AV supplier CVC who have over 30 years’ experience in event services. 

Consultant Gastroenterologist and Professor of Gastroenterology David Sanders, who organises the conference, said: “To have over 800 delegates registered is just fantastic and especially to have more than 50 of those make the journey to Sheffield in person.

“The staff at the Crowne Plaza Royal Victoria Hotel went out of their way to ensure all our delegates felt safe and welcome. As a result, we all enjoyed a really successful meeting and for those who attended the venue, it was extra special to be able to see our peers face-to-face”.

As a dedicated supporter of the Sheffield Conference Ambassador Programme, David is also set to host the International Society for Study of Celiac Disease in Sheffield in 2024,  which will see over 600 delegates attend the four-day conference.

The gastroenterology unit at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital is one of the biggest and best in the UK. David himself was the first professor of gut medicine in Sheffield and has had more than 300 papers published in peer-reviewed journals.

In 2017, he was named Clinical Nutrition Professional of the Year and regularly holds meetings in the city, including the Sheffield Gastroenterology Symposium, the biggest event of its kind.  He praises the Ambassador Programme for helping to relieve the pressure of organising these meetings.
