Internationally renowned Swiss drummer Florian Arbenz teams up with acclaimed British vibraphonist Jim Hart and award winning multi-instrumentalist Percy Pursglove. As part of a project to release 12 albums with 12 different groups of musicians, each carefully planned but dependent on the inspiration and creativity the players generate on the day, Florian created such an album with Jim.

Now Percy joins them for an exciting European trio tour to launch their new album ‘Conversation’. The interplay between the musicians is fascinating as they create a modern sound with a unique quality that is rooted in jazz, providing a canvas for improvisation.

Florian Arbenz, winner of a European Culture Award, is perhaps best known for his work with VEIN trio, described by John Fordham, The Guardian as “One of Europe’s most exciting ensembles”. He has a strong classical music background and also studied at Cuba’s University of the Arts, where he developed an interest in Afro-Cuban and Oriental rhythms. Florian has recorded and performed with artists such as Kirk Lightsy, Bennie Maupin, Andy Sheppard and Dave Liebman and the trio’s sophisticated and open-minded sound explores the realm between jazz and improvised music.

“… it is the compositions written by Florian Arbenz that are particularly striking…” – Kind of Jazz, UK

Jim Hart is one of the most in-demand musicians on the European jazz and alternative music scene, as a soloist and sideman on drums and vibraphone. Now living in France, Jim leads his own Cloudmakers Trio and is a fixture in the band of Danish sax genius, Marius Neset, Daniel Erdmann’s Velvet Revolution and Vula Viel. He has been the recipient of multiple British jazz awards while over the last five years Downbeat magazine has listed him, in both readers’ and critics’ polls, in the vibraphone and rising star categories.

“His vibes playing is a revelation” – The Times

Percy Pursglove may not be well known on the jazz circuit, but he is immersed in the music as a multi-instrumentalist, trumpeter, double bassist, educator, improviser and composer, working extensively throughout Europe and internationally across a broad spectrum of jazz, contemporary, classical and creative musical settings. A member of the famous German NDR Big Band, Percy has performed and recorded with a diverse range of artists including Evan Parker, Bill Frissell, Michael Gibbs, Chris Potter, Dave Holland, Laura Mvula, Gregory Porter, Dr John, Amy Winehouse and the WDR Big Band.
