Black History Month - Showroom Cinema

The diverse programme includes screenings and events presented in collaboration with several major film institutions and curators. These include:

  • Film screenings and lectures comprising the new Showroom Cinema Film Studies course, ‘Anti-Black Nightmares’, in partnership with Sheffield Hallam University.

  • Re-released classics, Uptight and Claudine, from Cinema Rediscovered, the UK's leading festival of classic cinema and film restorations.
  • A selection of films from ‘Black Again! Fifty Years of Blaxploitation’, a touring season from Hyde Park Picture House in Leeds and film distributor Park Circus, co-curated with writer Josiah Howard and Women of the Lens Festival. Films include Coffy, Black Caesar, and just in time for Halloween – Blacula.

  • Previews of Earth Mama and Omen from the 67th BFI London Film Festival in partnership with American Express.

  • Cassius X: Becoming Ali, traces the early boxing career of Muhammed Ali, with a special Q&A screening and VR experience LockerRoom: Rumble in The Jungle in partnership with StoryFutures.

  • Family Time screening of Disney’s The Princess and the Frog, and the new season of Film Studies launches with Anti-Black Nightmares, exploring race in horror, curated by Dr. Maisha Wester (The University of Sheffield) in partnership with Sheffield Hallam University.
