Mixed Metaphors by Rachel Pimm

16 Mar 2023 - 10 Jun 2023

Mixed Metaphors is a playful new exhibition by artist Rachel Pimm, commissioned by Arts Catalyst.

Mixed Metaphors features field recordings, soundscapes, video and sculptures associated with environmental and industrial histories of South Yorkshire.

It will be shown at Soft Ground from the 16 March – 10 June. The works emerge from the artist’s exploration of the rocks and minerals – iron, quartz, clay, feldspar, mica – found within and around the Peak District, and follow their journeys and flows above and below the ground.

Accompanied by a cast of characters, from scissors held in museum collections, to Buddleja sprouting through the cracks of former industrial buildings, Mixed Metaphors reveals minor histories and imagines other kinds of stories emerging from the landscape. Exhibition open Wednesdays - Saturdays 12 - 6pm. Free Entry. Soft Ground is on the first floor of a building on The Moor with lift access and disabled toilet.
