Out & About is a summer programme of celebrations in Sheffield’s Cultural Industries Quarter (CIQ), held across a series of four special weekends.
The Paint Jam Weekender is a celebration of art and creativity in the public realm. Grab a map and explore a series of newly commissioned murals, sited on the facade of popular locations along the Creative Industries Quarter and witness a selection of the most talented artists from across the region as they create artworks live alongside hip hop dance performances, street art tours and brand new art installations, in a celebration of the city’s unique character, heritage and communities

Saturday & Sunday, 12pm - 6pm in CIQ Square & Sidney + Matilda
Join us for a live 'Paint Jam', where you can witness a selection of the most talented artists from across the region as they create artworks live. See new works being created by the likes of Jim McElvaney, Grace Jandrell, Dan Cimmermann, Peachzz and more. Accompanied by DJ collective, Apricot Ballroom, the two day Paint Jam is a chance to see how different artists tackle a blank canvas from start to finish!
Murals across the CIQ
Saturday & Sunday, all day at various locations
This summer, the CIQ will become awash with a series of brand new murals painted directly onto the walls of some of the most iconic building in the area. Expect to see brand new vibrant work by nationally and internationally recognised artists right here on your doorstep. Use the map to discover and explore!
Hip-Hop Dance Performance
Sunday, 2pm at CIQ Square
Witness an incredible Hip-Hop dance performance by some of Sheffield's finest Hip-Hop dancers specialising in breakin, lockin and popping. Their combined performance alongside a number of other performers will bring a new energy to the CIQ Square.
Hip-Hop Dance Workshops
Sunday, 2.30pm & 3.10pm in CIQ Square
This is a chance to learn some of the moves that Nathan Geering and team use when performing. Elements of the workshop will also cover how Hip-Hop dance can be utilised to improve mental health and wellbeing. Whether you have done a bit of dance before, or you are completely new to it, this is a chance to come and learn something new.
Connecting Faces: A new commission by Liah Edwardes
Saturday & Sunday, 11am - 6pm at Foodhall
Sheffield based artist Liah Edwardes invited you to experience her brand new installation at Foodhall. Exploring line drawing and portraiture, Edwardes' new work transforms the loading bay of Foodhall into an immersive environment made up of a variety of different approaches to drawing. Throughout the Paint Jam weekend, Liah will be on site doing live line portraits using some traditional and some less traditional techniques.
Hitting the Streets: Mural and Street Art Tours of the CIQ
Saturday & Sunday, 2pm - 3pm, setting off from CIQ Square
The CIQ has seen some of the most exciting street art and large scale murals the city has to offer. Join Andy Carter, founder of the website Street Art Sheffield, on a tour of the area, taking in the new murals commissioned for Out & About, some other hidden gems as well as telling the story of artwork that used to reside in the CIQ. No booking required.
Paint Jam Party
Saturday, 6pm - 10pm, at Foodhall
To celebrate the Paint Jam, Foodhall are hosting an after party, which includes performances from bands Rosey PM and Shrub. Donations on the door of £6, with all proceeds going to Foodhall and the musicians. Suitable for 18+.
Communal Furniture Commission
Saturday & Sunday, 11am - 6pm, at CIQ Square
Come and explore a brand new adaptable furniture commission by architecture and design studio McCloy + Muchemwa produced in partnership with Mitre & Mondays. Relax, meet friends, grab a bite to eat and even take part in one of our workshops around this brand new piece of outdoor furniture.
Radio Residency w/ Montez Press Radio
Saturday & Sunday, 12pm - 4pm, Foodhall
Broadcasting all weekend, Montez Press Radio will be bringing the the CIQ to life through a combination of music, chat and features responding to the idea of public art and the Paint Jam. Montez Press Radio is an experimental broadcasting and performance platform, founded in 2018, with the goal of fostering greater experimentation and conversation between artists, writers, and thinkers through the medium of radio.
