South Yorkshire’s most happening pickling party is returning.

Social Pickle's famous community judged competition is back and their taste buds are already tingling in anticipation of the delicious concoctions you’re all going to enter.

Get your wildest creations a bubblin for the chance to be crowned a people's Pickle Champion!

But that’s not all! There will be bands to delight your ears, screen printing so you can let the world know what a fashionable pickling babe you are, food and drinks to warm your little cockles in the middle of November and so much more.

The Competition

Submit your homemade creations in the following categories between 15:00 - 17:00:

  • Jam
  • Chutney
  • Hot Sauce
  • Not-hot sauce
  • Pickles
  • Ferments (krauts, kimchis, veggies)
  • Drinks and vinegars (no alcohol)
  • Firm Ferments (miso, cheese)

Tasting and (collective) judging begins at 17:00 and ends at 19:00 with live music to serenade you as the scores are being counted.

The Pickle Champions will be announced at 21.00 with a live streaming on Social Pickle's Instagram for all those pickle enthusiasts waiting for results in the comfort of their own home!

Food & Drink

Alongside the competition entries there will be warming home-cooked vegan food for sale between 16:00 - 19:00.

SADACCA will be running a bar and Social Pickle will have some warming non-alcholic drinks too.

Social Pickle operate a pay-what-you can model so no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Workshops & Market

From 15.00 - 17.00 you will have the chance to get your hands in some cabbage massaging at the drop in communal Sauerkraut workshop run by Social Pickles fermentation enthusiasts...

Don't forget to bring a jar to take your kraut creation home! If cabbage massaging ain't your thing there will also be a Pickle Printing Station with the chance to get your old tees screen printed onto, a Creation Station with drop in arts activities and a quiet reading corner for those who want a place to relax and read up on the fabulous world of ferments!

Social Pickle will also have its own 'Market Stall'. They will be selling some of their fermenting and pickling creations from their 'Glut Clubs' made by the many hands of Sheffield's pickling community.

Suggested Donations

As ever it is a Pay What You Can event so nobody will be turned away for lack of funds. However, if you do have some spare pennies knocking around this is also a bit of a fundraiser! 2023 has been a fallow year for Social Pickle, but next year they’d love to be able to do even more to tackle food waste, acquaint even more people with their bellies full of microbes, and maybe even one day get a kitchen space of their own to be able to host more activity for you all to get involved with - so please donate if you can!

If you are unable to cover the cost of a ticket then there is the option for free tickets however we suggest: Unwaged £3 Waged £5 Donation £10 (or more!).
