About the play

The Vagina Monologues was written in 1996 by noted American activist Eve Ensler and quickly grew from award winning theatrical phenomenon to the catalyst for the V day and One Billion Rising movements to eliminate violence against women and girls. The play comprises a range of performance pieces based on the stories of women around the world that highlight the complexity and scope of the female experience; encompassing difficult topics from assault to childbirth whilst seeking to ultimately enlighten and empower both theatre makers and audiences alike.

In 2022, this play remains more critical than ever in helping to bring to the front the challenges facing women that have come to light during the pandemic and the importance of shared empathy and mutual understanding in the journey to true equality and inclusion for all.
