Videodrome (1983) and The Video Dead (1987) double-bill screening

Reel Steel present a ‘Screen Horror’ double-bill at Sheffield’s historic Abbeydale Picture House – marking the 40th Anniversary of director David Cronenberg’s sci-fi horror, Videodrome (1983), presented alongside a cult classic of screen-based terror, The Video Dead (1987).

A TV executive is looking for fresh new content for his channel, when he discovers an illegal broadcast known as ‘Videodrome‘. In his search for the source, his journey begins to blur the lines of reality, in David Cronenberg’s prescient film on the manipulative effects of media consumption.

An eerily predictive film on technology and the digital world, with stunningly realised body-horror effects by Oscar-winning artist Rick Baker (An American Werewolf in London).

In The Video Dead… we visit a quiet suburban street, where evil has arrived in the most ordinary way – an old television set. It receives a single channel, one that not only shows the same film over and over – a horror film where zombies rise from the grave – but also frees the undead through its screen portal. An 80s cult classic with a different take on traditional Zombie mythology.

Please note this screening has an 18 certificate – entry to this event will only be for those (including ticket holders) above this age.

Due to renovation building work taking place in the Abbeydale Picture House auditorium, this screening will take place in the venue’s Fly Tower Cinema. This cinema space is not wheelchair accessible. Booking in advance is recommended.
