New Food & Drink Places to Discover in Sheffield

While things have been tough for Sheffield’s hospitality businesses over the past year, this still hasn’t stopped innovative indies in the city from forging ahead. Even amidst lockdown restrictions, established businesses have continued to branch out further and a host of new exciting businesses have emerged.

So, if you weren’t already spoilt for choice with the vibrant independent food and drinks places on offer in Sheffield, here’s a whole load of new cafes, bars and restaurants to try and some developments to keep an eye out for later in the year…

Recently Opened

Alto Rooftop Bar
Alto is the city’s newest rooftop bar, having opened atop of the newly renovated Cubo Works, on Carver Street (city centre) offering food, drinks and an exclusive VIP area. www.facebook.com/ALTOsheffield

Aria Bar at Kommune
The latest addition to the Castlegate food hall, Aria is a plush new lounge bar, in collaboration with Campari. Catering for smaller social gatherings, Aria is serving up exciting cocktails (including a dedicated Negroni menu) and specially curated sharing plates. www.facebook.com/ariabarsheffield

Bullion Chocolate Factory

The Bear

The Catch Restaurant & Bar

The Furnace
The first bar-restaurant to open in Sheffield’s landmark Heart of the City development in the centre. Named with a nod to the city’s industrial past, The Furnace is set to “ignite the senses” with exciting cocktails, Yorkshire fusion food menu and even boasts its own 6-seater outdoor fire pit. www.thefurnace.uk.com

Dysh Coffee and Kitchen

Isabella’s Café Bar
Classy coffee bar by day and a restaurant-bar by night, Isabella’s is now open on Alma Street. Marmadukes 3, Ecclesall Road
The owners behind popular Sheffield city centre cafes, Marmadukes, have now opened their third in the city. This time in an old sorting office on Ecclesall Road, which has been lovingly renovated to maintain many of the orginal features. www.marmadukes.co

Native

Sharrow Vale Road’s fishmongers extraordinaire, JH Mann, have opened Native- a British seafood restaurant offering a new dining experience on Gibraltar Street, just on the edge of the city centre. www.nativejhmann.co.uk

The Pangolin
Having opened as a shop during restrictions, Pangolin have now opened their craft beer bar too. Another addition to Hillsborough’s bourgeoning indie scene, the bar offers draft from both keg and bottle, as well as wines and spirits. www.facebook.com/Pangolin-Craft-Beer

Raffina Caffè Bar & Ristorante (Ecclesall Road)
Having opened their first site at Fox Valley earlier this year, Raffina, have now opened their second in the city, in the former Le Bistrot Pierre building. While the Fox Valley site is their coffee/deli concept, Raffina Ecclesall is open for dining & drinks into the evening. https://raffina.co.uk

True Loves

The Barn at Whirlow
MasterChef contestant, Luke Rhodes is the new Head Chef of Whirlow Hall Farm's newly expanded restaurant. The Barn at Whirlow also includes a farm shop and will be the perfect place to socialise and enjoy Luke’s fantastic dishes, made with ingredients fresh from the farm. www.whirlowhallfarm.org

Corner Store- opening 2021, date TBC

Heist Brewery Tap Room- opening July 2021
Having moved to Neepsend Lane last year, Heist Beer Co. have been grafting way, converting a large industrial space into their dedicated tap room, which is set to house the largest keg line bar in Sheffield, with 30 taps.  https://www.heistbrewco.com

Lisboa 2, Crookes- opening August 2021 TBC
While we’re eagerly awaiting the reopening of Lisboa in the Peace Gardens, the team are pretty busy behind the scenes making changes to the city centre brand and getting their second site ready up at Crookes. www.lisboapatisserie.co.uk

Lykke- opening 2021, date TBC

Peaks Sports Bar- opening summer 2021, date TBC
Having refurbed the former Rileys on Sharrow Vale, Peaks will unveil a new look for the two-storey snooker club building and promise great gaming, complete with every variation of pool & snooker you can imagine, dart boards, ping pong tables, great beer & food- plus a large terrace with panoramic views over Sheffield. www.peakssnooker.com

Sheffield Plate- opening 2021, exact date TBC

Shuffle Shack- opening August 2021, exact date TBC 
Located in the depths below Picture House Social at Abbeydale Picture House, Shuffle Shack is a new bar concept incorporating Deck Shuffleboard- a game which is a bit like curling and great for a fun/competitive group activity with your mates.
