Looking for activities to do over the Christmas period? Sheffield is home to a range of family-friendly attractions and special festive events during December. With something to suit all ages, there’ll never be a dull moment this Christmas with our roundup of festive fun family activities…


Christmas Crafts at Cutlery Works
20 & 22 December
Get crafty this Christmas with the Amazelab and My Arty Party events hosted at Cutlery Works, down at Kelham Island. Create your own pop-up Christmas cards and snow globes with Amazelab or let the creativity with My Arty Party, through with 1-hour craft workshop that could be anything from paint techniques, weaving and printing to clay modelling, decoupage and paper crafts.

Sheffield Christmas Trail: Brearley’s Christmas Party
Running until 24 December
Help Brearley Bear track down his friends and take the Sheffield Christmas trail around the city centre. Follow the rhyming clues to find his eight friends and once you’ve found them all, children will receive a FREE Christmas treat at the end in Brearley’s Festive HQ. Find out more:

Santa’s Grotto in the Peace Gardens

Running until 24 December
Have the magical experience of visiting Santa’s grotto located at the top of the Peace Gardens, in Sheffield City Centre. There’s no need to book in as you can visit at any time during the opening hours, where each child will also receive a soft toy of their choice and take away the wonderful memories. Find out more:

The Santa Express at Meadowhall
Running until 24 December
Take a ride with the Santa Express and get into the Christmas spirit, as you discover sparkling illuminations along the River Don and cheer along with the entertainment from Santa’s little helpers. Santa himself will be waiting at the destination, giving you the opportunity to capture your Christmas memories! Find out more:

Graves Park Animal Farm
Running until 24 December
Head to Graves Park Animal Farm and get involved in their very own Christmas Trail. Once you’re there, pick up your Santa Hat and trail to find the reindeer, snowmen and letters located around the farm and once complete, you can claim your prize from one of Santa’s elves! It’s perfect for all ages as you can enjoy the farm animals, festive decorations, and some great photo opportunities to remember the day. Find out more:

The Tropical Butterfly House
Open 10am - 5pm every day, except Christmas Day and Boxing Day
Loved for their fantastic daily animal encounters, The Tropical Butterfly House are hosting a special Meet Santa event where you’ll get the opportunity to visit Santa’s magical grotto. There’s also a Festive Friends Trail to see if you can spot all the festive friends hidden around the park.  Find out more:

Mayfield Alpaca Animal Park
Open 10am - 4pm every day, except Christmas Day and Boxing Day
Only a short drive away from Sheffield City Centre, Mayfield Alpacas is home to a whole host of animals such as llama, sheep, goats, and meerkats. Take a trip to this scenic location over the festive period and you can visit the animals, take in the views and meet a real-life reindeer! Find out more:

Gulliver’s Valley
Events until 31 December
Get ready for a Christmas adventure at Gulliver’s Valley Resort! They have many fantastic, festive packages and themed days to enjoy including Christmas indoor and outdoor attractions, an interactive Christmas shop, Gully’s Christmas show and even special appearances from Santa himself throughout the day. The Village Screen’s Drive Thru Cinema is also popping up at the park with a whole host of Christmas film, 17 -23 December. Then beyond Christmas, Gulliver’s will be sending out the year with their NYE fireworks party. Find out more:

The Steel Cauldron
Events until 2 January
Sheffield’s enchanted wizarding themed tearoom-tavern are hosting a range of magical festive events throughout December. The Steel Cauldron has been transformed into a winter wonderland where you can eat, drink, sing carols and meet Santa. The fun continues after Christmas Day when they’ll be making the most of the Chrimbo Limbo with a selection of special sessions and activities for Wizards of all ages. Find out more:

Sleeping Beauty at Sheffield Lyceum
Running until 3 January
The annual Lyceum pantomime always promise an extravaganza the whole family can enjoy and this year’s is no exception. Starring comedy great Janine Duvitski (Benidorm), legendary Dame, Damian Williams, alongside actor, presenter and comic Ben Thornton- Sleeping Beauty promises to be the pantomime of your dreams, with lavish sets, hilarious jokes and fun for the whole family!
