Ark Home Healthcare chooses Sheffield for three year £10.4m investment in its future
03 December 2013
Over one hundred new jobs are to be created in Sheffield - thanks to a partnership between Creative Sheffield, the economic development arm of Sheffield City Council and Ark Home Healthcare Ltd.
Ark Home Healthcare Ltd is a nationwide homecare and healthcare company looking after thousands of people across the UK in the safety and comfort of their own homes. The company has chosen Sheffield as the location for its new 'Customer Response Centre' having piloted the project over the summer.
In making their choice Mark Lavery, Ark's CEO, acknowledge the first class support his company had received from Creative Sheffield in all aspects of the decision making process.
"We spent some considerable time evaluating our options when it came to sourcing the location for our new state-of-the-art operational control centre and Head Office. There were a number of proposals on the table, but the consultative assistance we received from Creative Sheffield, together with their greatly-appreciated financial support for our enterprise, made a move to South Yorkshire a very straightforward commercial decision at the end of the day."
Ark's new headquarters will be located at No2 The Square, Castlegate, in 7,000 square foot of office space and the move will create up to 103 new jobs in the city including roles in finance, human resources, IT, planning and customer services. Mark Lavery commented that "the selected location is prime Grade A office space in the centre of Sheffield which offers options for further expansion."
As part of the move to Sheffield, Ark plans to introduce new ways of working in a sector that urgently needs to respond to the challenges associated with the UK's rapidly ageing population.
Speaking about the business relocating to Sheffield, Mark Lavery highlighted the need for real innovation in the home and healthcare sectors:
"By setting up a Customer Response Centre to control our operational activity across the County, we are introducing something entirely new in the way both care at home and healthcare at home are delivered and managed in the UK. It is the particularly friendly and approachable nature of South Yorkshire people that has led us to conclude Sheffield is the ideal location for what we have planned.
"We are proud to be relocating the administrative side of our company to Sheffield and we know South Yorkshire will prove an excellent base from which to develop our business."
Ark intend to transform the way in which home care is delivered in the UK, through leading edge mobile technology controlled by the Sheffield centre. This provides online care worker tracking and visibility and immediate reponse to customer needs. Ark's new venture in Sheffield is designed to make 'staying put' a high quality, information-rich, but very cost effective alternative, helping their customers retain the personal independence they so cherish.
Councillor Leigh Bramall, Sheffield City Council's Cabinet Member for Business, Skills and Development said:
"Ark's recognition that Sheffield is a great city in which they can achieve their ambitious growth sends a clear message that we are a business destination of choice. Healthcare technologies is a key sector for Sheffield and it is great news that Ark will be joining the world leading healthcare and medical businesses that are based here in Sheffield.
"The work that we do with local, national and international businesses, supporting our local economy and attracting investment to the city is key to our aim to become the most business friendly city in the UK."
Ark has been awarded Regional Growth Funding of up to £500k and support from the Local Enterprise Partnership, alongside property advice from Lambert Smith Hamptom and Knight Frank.
