Wortley Hall

Wortley Hall was the ancestral home of the Earls of Wharncliffe – the Lords of the Manor of Wortley and has a history going back 500 years. Now a hotel set in 26 acres of fromal grounds and woodlands.

The hall itself is a treasure trove of historical pieces of architecture including period fire places, secret doors, servants quarters and an array of decorative works of art and history.

The hotel has recently undergone a refurbishment which has seen the upgarding of many of the rooms and public spaces to incorporate the requirements of the modern visitor.

The dining room includes original wood panelling; magnificent fireplaces and the ceilings are arguably the finest examples of Renaissance style friezes in Great Britain. The bar is spacious and visitors will also be able to use the games room with snooker, pool and darts facilities.

The hotel boasts a range of lounges and television rooms incorporating an extensive library.

There are 49 bedrooms all with en-suite facilities, that can cater for single, double, twin and family requirements. Ground floor accommodation is also available if stairs present a problem. All rooms have colour TV and tea making facilities.

The gardens surrounding the hall include an old ice house, sunken and terraced gardens and include a fossilised tree stump estimated at 250-300 years old.

Part of the Transpennine Trail runs through the Wharncliffe estate making Wortley village and hall a pleasant resting place and ideal for walkers and cyclists wanting to explore the national trail. The village of Wortley has a number of small shops including a post office.

Only guide dogs are accepted.
