Sheffield beer conference has the X Factor

12 February 2014

The Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) is set to bring its popular annual celebration of British beer - BeerX - back to Sheffield, with iceSheffield being the chosen venue to host the five-day event 11- 15 March 2014.

It follows the success of BeerX 2013 at SIV’s Ponds Forge International Sports Centre.

The conference includes a massive public Festival of Beer, which will showcase around 300 SIBA regional award-winning beers as they are judged in the UK’s biggest national beer competition for cask, bottled and keg beers.

High profile speakers lined up include Tim Martin, founder of JD Wetherspoon, UK and USA brewing industry guru Dr Charlie Bamforth and Andrew Griffiths, MP and Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Beer.

Dom Stokes, General Manager for SIV Events, said: “Following the success of BeerX 2013 at Ponds Forge, we are delighted to have secured the event in Sheffield once again. This year’s event will be even bigger and better and has relocated to iceSheffield to accommodate the 1000s of anticipated visitors including delegates and exhibitors.

“iceSheffield is an award-winning and unique conference and events venue which has hosted hundreds of local, regional, national and international events from major wedding fairs to the BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2009 pre and after show party.”

The event will also incorporate a Meet the Brewer event, SIBA’s AGM and a programme of seminars designed to help SIBA members to grow their business.

Beer lovers can watch the Rugby Six Nations which will be screened at iceSheffield and a performance by the Everly Pregnant Brothers. Blues pianist Dale Storr will also be providing entertainment on the Friday evening.

Alex Buchanan, SIBA Council member and marketing manager for Thornbridge Brewery, said: “BeerX 2013 was a great success, and with a line-up of high quality speakers, a programme of seminars from industry experts, a Festival of Beer, and the announcement of our brewing and business award winners, BeerX 2014 looks set to build on the success of last year’s event.

“BeerX is about presenting British beer at its best to the widest audience possible, so we are pleased to be working with SIV again at a bigger venue in iceSheffield. We look forward to welcoming the brewing industry in March.”

Tickets are £6-£8 (CAMRA, NUS & Armed Forces concessions) and availble from www.beerx.org or on the door.
