Sheffield Theatres named Regional Theatre Of The Year for second year running

07 February 2014

Sheffield Theatres has been awarded the prestigious title of Regional Theatre of the Year 2014 at The Stage Awards for the second time.

Recognising the outstanding work of the theatre during the last year, the award was presented at a ceremony held by The Stage at London’s Theatre Royal, Drury Lane.

Sheffield Theatres, which comprises the Crucible, the Lyceum and the Studio Theatres, was recognised for the range and quality of both its in-house productions and its programming of touring shows, following a year of work which included This Is My Family, a brand new musical by Tim Firth (UK Theatre Awards for Best Musical Production and Best Supporting Performance for Siân Phillips), Bull by Mike Bartlett (transferred to 59E59 Theaters in New York as part of the Brits Off Broadway Festival) and The Full Monty, which transfers to London’s West End this February with co-producers David Pugh and Dafydd Rogers.

Sheffield Theatres’ Chief Executive Dan Bates said: ‘It is a fantastic honour to be crowned Regional Theatre of the Year for the second year running. 2013 was a truly unforgettable year for Sheffield Theatres, with our work seen on a local, national and international level and this award is recognition of the hard work of the whole staff team.’

The annual awards are run in conjunction with The Stage 100, the paper’s yearly analysis of the most influential movers and shakers in the industry. The Stage 100 recognises the achievements of high profile individuals and The Stage Awards celebrate performing arts organisations and the teams behind them. Six categories in total have been awarded by The Stage’s judging panel.
