100 Day to go! Countdown to Tour De France

26 March 2014

Sheffield is gearing up to welcome thousands of visitors to the city as the South Yorkshire capital becomes the focus nationally and internationally as part of the Tour de France Grand Depart.

Thursday 27 March marks the start of the countdown and the beginning of the celebratory Yorkshire Festival which will see 100 Days of arts and culture activity across the region.

As part of the Yorkshire Festival, the Sheffield Culture Consortium, through Arts Council England funding, has commissioned a number of local artists to launch the activity in Sheffield.

The launch of the activity in Sheffield includes a free Unicycle Display performance open to members of the public at 4.30pm on Thursday in Tudor Square. As well as the unicycle display, giant brightly coloured crocheted flowers will be displayed.

Over the weekend there will be a range of family activities. The public will be invited to decorate the Tour de France Countdown Clock before it is installed in the Winter Garden for the remainder of the 100 day countdown and a bicycle-powered printing press will be outside the Town Hall where people can make their very own commemorative posters.

On Sunday 30th March, Barkers Pool will host a free bicycle-decorating workshop from 12.00-4.00pm, alongside a Cycle Boost cycle repair workshop. This is first of a number of Sheffield Steel Peloton Events throughout the 100 Days.

The weekend celebrations will finish with a concert of classically-arranged British folk songs in the Millennium Galleries from 6.30pm on March 30th. Free tickets are available at https://sheffieldchoralcelebration.eventbrite.co.uk
