From industrial heartland to cultural icon, Kelham Island's transformation into Sheffield's premier destination for food, drink and thriving independent businesses is going from strength-to-strength thanks to the opening of several new establishments.
Sheffield's answer to Manchester's Northern Quarter, Kelham’s continued expansion demonstrates the area's wide appeal and over the last few weeks a flurry of new businesses have opened their doors to tempt visitors to the area all the more. Here’s a rundown of some fantastic new places to sample/ explore…
First up, is Domo. This quirky Sardinian restaurant, bar and deli is discreetly tucked away behind Little Kelham's new luxury housing complex, and serves authentic Italian-Mediterranean food and drink. Catering for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Domo is a fantastic place to relax, enjoy a glass of wine, and experience a true taste of Sardinia.
Australian-inspired cafe and bar, Noosa, was brought about by numerous trips to Australia by owners Charlie and Kelly. Noosa offers exceptional coffee and a range of delicious brunch dishes served until 4pm, after which a selection of bar snacks are on offer, alongside a great drinks menu, including wine, cocktails, champagne and more. You’ll find it on Alma Street, conveniently close to Kelham Island Museum.
If you're looking for a spot of lunch, then look no further than Kelham Deli & Produce. Offering mouth-watering sandwiches, pastries, cakes and pies, as well as stocking fresh fruit and veg, locally-sourced preserves and pantry items, craft beer, cured meats, and much more- it’s likely you’ll pick up some bits to take home with you too.
On the other side of the Island, attractive Saw Grinder's Union is a new restaurant, bar and cafe providing breakfast and brunch menus, as well as an evening menu (including fondue). SGU also has a great range of craft beers and serves quality coffee from its adjacent cafe. You'll find it in a cobbled courtyard behind Globe Works, perfect for alfresco drinks when the sun finally comes out.
Finally, there's the new antiques market Kelham Flea. The market stocks the very best in antiques and quirky vintage items, a great place to stumble something truly unique. The sheer variety of the market means you never know what you'll find, so it's well worth a visit to see just what you discover.
