Sheffield Adventure Film Festival screenings to run throughout autumn
29 September 2020
Sheffield Adventure Film Festival’s (ShAFF) autumn programme of screening events has kicked off at the newly reopened Showroom Cinema. The festival, normally held over one big weekend in March, was postponed earlier this year and is now going ahead as a series of evening screenings over coming months.
ShAFF have taken a collaborative community approach to the event planning for these autumn screenings, having asked their existing ticket holders and potential audience members what they wanted from the festival in light of ongoing restrictions.
Nearly 200 people responded to a survey sent out by the festival organisers, with respondents providing their honest thoughts and comments. Over 50% of respondents indicated that they don’t feel comfortable with the idea of a festival event just yet, even with safeguards in place, and so the festival team took the decision to adapt the original 2020 film programme into a series of weekly evening screenings.
The dates and adventure themes for the ShAFF Thursday screenings are:
Thursday 1 October Adrenaline Films 1
Thursday 22 October Water Films 1
Thursday 29 October Bike Films
Thursday 12 November Run Films 1
Thursday 19 November Climb Films 1
Thursday 26 November Bike Packing Films
Thursday 3 December Climb Films 3
Thursday 10 December Mountain Films
Thursday 17 December Spirit Of Adventure Films 1
A limited number of tickets are on sale now via the ShAFF website: https://shaff.co.uk/shaff20/shaff-2020-autumn-programme.
Following the most recent government guidance, the festival have also confirmed that the 10pm curfew for venues does not apply to cinema screenings, so you can still have a night out of onscreen adventure thrills in Sheffield.
For those who aren’t able to make it to the cinema screenings, the ShAFF team are also organising an exciting series of outdoor, drive-in, and online events, so keep a lookout for more announcements on that coming soon.
Like everyone, the ShAFF team will continue to closely monitor government announcements, to make sure their plans meet the latest guidance. The first priority is that the ShAFF audience are safe, well, and able to enjoy the best new adventure films from around the world.
The Showroom Cinema team are working hard to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for cinemagoers to enjoy. All ShAFF screenings will take place in Screen 4, which usually seats 270. In order to allow social distancing, capacity will be reduced to 87 per session.
They’re of course, also closely monitoring government guidelines to make sure they are up to date and prioritising the health and safety of customers and employees.
