Black History Month event listings

Each October, Sheffield joins a national celebration to highlight Black history, culture and heritage, and empower people to take action against racism. From fascinating talks and thought-provoking film screenings, to music performances that will get your blood pumping and feet tapping - there is something for everyone!

Off The Shelf Festival of Words 2023

Sheffield's annual festival celebrating books, words and ideas, is one of the UK’s largest literary festivals. Every October they bring the biggest names in local, regional, and international literary talent, media and the arts to South Yorkshire.

Strange Sheffield Ghost Walks - Haunted Halloween

This Halloween embark on a spine-chilling journey through the dark heart of Sheffield! Join Strange Britain for one of their specially spooky city centre walks, taking place 18, 20, 25, & 27 October.

Halloween at the Tropical Butterfly House

There’s some frighteningly good family fun in store for you throughout the October half-term holiday at the Tropical Butterfly House.

Picture This at the National Videogame Museum

A new exhibition capturing the fun of videogame photography! Running 21 - 29 October, visitors can enjoy endless camera based fun, including generating their own content by taking pixel perfect selfies with a Game Boy Camera or crafting props for a photo booth close up.

Halloween Half Term at Graves Park Animal Farm

A frighteningly fun time awaits at Graves Park Animal Farm in Sheffield 21 - 31 October, with the return of their popular pumpkin picking and 'Nightmare on the Farm' woodland walk. 

Classically Spooky Crafts

Visit Sheffield Manor Lodge on 23–26 October for some classically spooky crafts inspired by (in)famous Halloween celebs! Create a Frankenstein’s Monster mask, a mini Dracula model or a pair of fluffy ghosts!

Spooky half-term at the National Emergency Services Museum

Visit this historic Victorian building for a spooky half term of crafts, treasure hunts and activities to mark Halloween 2023. 

Trick or Treat Halloween Trail on The Moor

The Moor Sheffield is offering children some half term fun this Halloween with a free Trick or Treat Halloween Trail on the 25th and 26th of October between 11am and 2pm.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

Academy Award® winning film, is set to tour the UK live in concert this autumn and comes to Sheffield City Hall on Friday 27 October. This masterpiece of film animation will be shown on a huge HD screen, accompanied by a unique fusion of live orchestra, turntables and percussion playing the music from the soundtrack.

Halloween Masquerade Ceilidh

Join Powerhouse Ceilidh Band on Tuesday 31 October for a fun night of spooky tunes and ceilidh dancing! Powerhouse are a five piece ceilidh band consisting of melodeon, flute, electric guitar, bass and drums.

Treason the Musical

A new musical drama about the notorious gunpowder plot of 1605, comes to Sheffield's Lyceum Theatre 31 October - 4 November. Set to blow you away with stunning original folk and pop songs, this one-of-a-kind show tells one of the most intriguing tales in Britain’s history as it’s never been seen before.

Sharrow Autumn Carnival

Come along to this annual celebration for a chance to make lanterns, join the parade, enjoy live music and entertainment, watch fire spinners, have some free food & celebrate another fantastic autumn carnival, in Sharrow!

Illuminate The Gardens 2023

Illuminate the Gardens is a fireworks and lighting extravaganza that takes place over several nights at Sheffield's stunning Botanical Gardens, around the weekend of Bonfire Night. This years event will be 3 - 5 November.

Autumn Lights at Don Valley Bowl
