Accessing the right type of finance can make all the difference when growing or strengthening a business. To help Sheffield’s entrepreneurs better understand the funding options available, Business Sheffield hosted the Access to Finance Networking Breakfast at Electric Works, as part of Business Finance Week led by the British Business Bank.
More than 60 local business owners and professionals joined us for a morning of insight, conversation and connection. The event brought together an expert panel representing some of the leading finance and support organisations across South Yorkshire, who shared their experience and advice on the different routes to finance:
Rachel Fletcher – FSC Associates: where to find grants and how to make stronger applications.
Richard Kirtley – Purple Shoots: ethical microloans to help individuals and small enterprises start and grow sustainably.
Felix Barr – South Yorkshire Innovation Programme: innovation grants and business support to help turn ideas into commercial success.
Habib Karimi – Business Enterprise Fund: loan finance to support growth for both start-ups and established SMEs.
Paul Wainwright – South Yorkshire Debt Fund: debt finance solutions to improve cashflow and fund expansion.
The morning concluded with a lively Q&A session, where participants asked questions about funding eligibility, application processes and the most suitable types of finance for their stage of business. Attendees also had the chance to connect directly with the panel, Business Sheffield advisors and fellow entrepreneurs, creating a supportive and collaborative atmosphere focused on practical outcomes.
A big thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the discussion. The event was packed with valuable insights and genuine connections that will help Sheffield businesses move forward with confidence.
