Move here and you’ll find that locals are chatty and eager to help. It helps make those first few weeks of student life that little bit easier. And, you’ll be joining over 60,000 students from all over the world. No matter your background, you’ll feel right at home.
In first year, Sheffield students enjoy living in safe and modern university accommodation in large student communities with 24/7 security. These are great places to make friends and meet people to explore Sheffield together. If you ever lose your friends, our city-wide Safe Taxi Scheme can get you home without you needing to worry about covering the costs there and then.
In their second and third year, our students love living in the city centre and areas like Crookes and Broomhill or Ecclesall Road which are buzzing with independent shops, luscious green spaces and food from around the world. They discover a safe student environment in a welcoming, supportive community.
Sheffield is easy to get around, and it’s only a short walk to all the city’s university campuses. The University of Sheffield’s campus sits between the city centre and the student areas of Crookes and Broomhill. You’ll find Sheffield Hallam University’s City Campus right in the middle of the city centre, and its Collegiate Campus is located in the student-friendly Ecclesall Road area.
The UK’s most affordable student city
Sheffield is the most affordable student city in the UK (The Royal Bank of Scotland’s Student Living Index 2021). With many costs sitting below the UK average, it’s a little bit easier to stretch your student budget here.
