The Sharrow Lantern Carnival

21 Mar 2026 18:00 - 20:30

The Sharrow Lantern Carnival is an annual community arts event for families, run by the Sharrow Lantern Carnival Association, a small group of volunteers.

The main event attracts around 2,000 people, hundreds of whom bring hand-made lanterns to parade through the streets in a celebration of creativity and togetherness.

Gather at 6pm in the Cemetery Park.

The procession will start at 6.30pm as it starts to get dark.

There will be hundreds of hand made lanterns, and several Samba bands, winding their way through the General Cemetery for about an hour and a half.

The Carnival will close at 8.30pm.

Additional Information

Sharrow Lantern Carnival was set up in 2004 as a celebration of the first anniversary of the end of the Iraq war. The group who originally began the carnival wanted to bring peaceful protest to the streets of Sharrow. Today they still keep to these morals by celebrating the creative community in Sharrow. The carnival takes place annually in April and there are free lantern making workshops running from March every Saturday and Sunday.
