Wild Play Easter Holidays

31 Mar 2026 - 08 Apr 2026

Love playing and exploring outside? Children can release their little spring chicks this Easter and join nature‑inspired woodland sessions. Participants will learn about some woodland birds and the creepy crawlies they eat, try to spot them by camouflaging themselves (and the dens they make), plus enjoy the usual games, fun, and exploration in the woods. The sessions are also part of the Children’s University.

These WILD PLAY events are perfect for children approximately 3–9 years old. Younger siblings may attend for free with a paying child, but they are not expected to participate, as the activities are not aimed at their age group. Only the participating children need a ticket, but adults must stay throughout. Although the sessions take place in the woods, it is best to leave dogs at home.

Each event lasts 2 hours and takes place entirely outdoors in all weather conditions, so families should prepare for woodland (muddy) terrain and a small stream crossing. The woodland is not accessible and involves crossing a small stream with steep, muddy banks (not recommended for prams, though possible if necessary). Those needing further clarification are encouraged to get in touch. The group aims to set off promptly on their adventure, so attendees should arrive on time to avoid being left behind. Booking a ticket is essential.

Facilities and parking:
Public toilets and a car park are available at the Discovery Centre. If the car park is full, visitors are politely asked not to park on the roadside verges on Abbey Lane. Instead, they should park around the corner on Whirlowdale Road and walk to the entrance, allowing a few extra minutes.
