Regeneration of Fargate and High Street

Connecting the Heart of the City to Castlegate, Fargate is one of the most important areas of the city. It’s time to revitalise it and make it the destination Sheffield deserves.

Thanks to a successful bid for £15.8m of government funding, supported by the University of Sheffield, the area is being reinvented as a social hub in the city centre. The project is also funded by Sheffield City Council and SYMCA.

A Fargate for the future

Event Central

This six-storey community hub at 20-26 Fargate will showcase Sheffield’s diverse talent, bringing together entertainment, culture, art, performance, co-working, exhibitions, workshops, talks, and events.

It will include a licensed, 200-capacity live music venue in the basement, exhibition space, a café/juice bar, and two floors for co-working. With a year-round programme of major international events, it’s expected to attract more than 110,000 visitors a year.

Street scene

New landscaping, green planting, seating areas, and lighting will see Fargate and High Street’s outdoor areas transformed into vibrant, welcoming spaces for all to enjoy.

Inspired by the award-winning Grey to Green project, beautiful pocket parks will catch, store, absorb, and clean rainwater and run-off from roads and pavements, as well as attracting birds and insects.

Front Door Scheme

Sheffield Council is working with commercial partners to unlock upper floors and increase access for new homes and offices in key buildings.

New, separate front doors will enable easier access to these hidden parts of Fargate that have long been underused.
