Glassby worked as assistant to renowned Victorian sculptors, including Boehm and Marochetti, and late in his career became Sculptor to Queen Victoria. Much of his work is in the Royal Collection portraying royalty and members of the aristocracy. In addition he contributed to the Albert Memorial and numerous commemorative statues. Sculptures during the Victorian period reflected the mores of society at that time.
