Black British Childhoods in Literature: Past and Present

Visit Central Library for a free talk with award-winning author J. T. Williams and leading academic Professor Karen Sands-O'Connor. The event will be hosted by Dr Aneesh Barai.

J. T. Williams won the 2024 Little Rebels Award and writes both fiction and non-fiction about Black British history. Professor Sands-O'Connor is an expert in Black British children's books.

They will talk about history, community, voice, and identity—and why these ideas matter to all readers. If you enjoy children's books, are curious about Black history, or want to explore cultural diversity, this event is for you.
