REFRAME Rotherham, created in collaboration with children and headed by Grimm & Co for the Festival of Stories, sets out to transform young people into visionaries.
Their dreams, frustrations, and hopes for Rotherham were re-imagined as bold, metaphor-rich visual stories, blending the sincerity of lived experience with the wonder of magical realism.
Award-winning photographer, cinematographer, and social justice advocate, Elisa Iannacone, brought these stories to life through eight striking portraits of Rotherham’s young people.
First exhibited at Grimm & Co in 2025, Wentworth Woodhouse is proud to host these evocative images – many of which were captured within the house itself.
In creating REFRAME Rotherham, a powerful fusion of documentary realism and fantastical imagery, Iannacone relied on one of her most essential tools: a set of Cooke SP3 lenses.
Their warmth, intimacy and cinematic depth helped channel the emotional heart of the project, inviting viewers to see Rotherham through the eyes of its next generation.
With a career spanning both fiction and conflict-zone documentaries, Iannacone approached this work as an opportunity to merge emotional truth with dreamlike, immersive, aesthetic re-framing, not just of a city, but of the stories its young people dare to tell.
