The Christmas Special will take place on 2nd December at 7:30 pm at The Beaten Track. The evening will follow the same format as other Hidden Tracks events — the first half will feature programmed performances, and the second half will be a jam session — with extra time in between for refreshments, conversation, and general merriment.
Hidden Tracks is a monthly series dedicated to promoting and showcasing contemporary classical music in the heart of Sheffield. Entry is free and open to performers, composers, and music enthusiasts of all kinds.
How it works:
Each Hidden Track night consists of two halves. The first half features programmed performances, while the second half is devoted to experimental group improvisation. There will be a short break in between — attendees are encouraged to enjoy the delicious drinks on offer from The Beaten Track.
Those who would like to perform or have their piece performed during the first half are invited to email hiddentracksheff@gmail.com. The series is specifically looking for post-1960s compositions, including original works. This is an opportunity to try out new pieces in a relaxed and supportive environment.
The second half offers musicians the chance to experiment and create new sounds and timbres together. The jam session welcomes both experienced and new improvisers, with hosts guiding the session. Explorations of unconventional instrumentations and styles are encouraged.
Those who prefer not to perform or jam are warmly invited to attend and listen.
