Life Aquatic Band Live at Sidney & Matilda

03 Dec 2025 19:30 - 23:00

Life Aquatic Band and friends The Pearl River Band & Spook Muziek are back with a hometown gig at Sidney & Matilda.

Life Aquatic Band (LAB) make music that brings sunshine to drab days. Drawing on 70s New York No Wave and early-2000s Electroclash, they sit somewhere between DEVO, The B-52s and LCD Soundsystem. Their new EP Stuck In The Mud arrives February 2026, produced by two-time Mercury Prize nominee Shuta Shinoda. Its lead singles have already picked up major national radio support, landing spins across BBC Radio 6 Music (New Music Fix Daily, Lauren Laverne, Amy Lamé, Indie Forever, Craig Charles) and Radio X (X-Posure with John Kennedy and X-Posure Daily), as well as early backing from BBC Introducing.

Known for high-energy, genre-hopping live shows, LAB have honed their sound into something tighter, darker and more dancefloor-driven - analogue loops, chanting vocals, and synths that swing from sweet to abrasive, all anchored by a 70s-inspired No Wave backbeat. Fans of Liquid Liquid and Talking Heads will find a familiar pulse, but LAB push it somewhere new.

Since 2023 they’ve toured the UK’s best independent venues and appeared at festivals including Glastonbury, Shambala, Tramlines, Live at Leeds and GreenIsland. They’ve been supported by Help Musicians, Launchpad and completed a residency at The Glasshouse, International Centre for Music in Gateshead. Recent headline shows include Sidney & Matilda (Sheffield), The New Adelphi (Hull), Divine Schism showcases in Oxford and London, The Canteen (Bristol) and The Glasshouse (Newcastle).
