Reframing Wentworth Woodhouse's Untold Stories Exhibition | Jennifer Vanderpool

27 Jan 2026 - 28 Jun 2026

A native of the Mahoning Valley in northeast Ohio, now working in Los Angeles, Jennifer Vanderpool’s ongoing project, Untold Stories, examines the social construction of place, exploring the influences of history, labour, race, gender, and class on the lives of manual, industrial, and labouring communities.

She crafts these stories through exhibitions that feature her imaginary realism compositions, material culture, and historical film & media she’s researched in archives and then curated into the shows and collaborative, community-engagement projects.

In 2021, the US-Fulbright Commission awarded Vanderpool a Fulbright Artist Fellowship to explore relationships between the Industrial Midwest region of the USA and the North of England.

Her exhibition at Wentworth Woodhouse investigates the loss of heavy industry in Rotherham and Sheffield alongside an exhibition at the Harley Gallery exploring how the loss of coal mining impacted Nottinghamshire.
