Carbon neutral by the end of the next decade

Sheffield is committed to becoming carbon neutral by the end of the next decade. We've committed to shortening our original target by 20 years, declared a Climate Emergency, and announced a citizens’ assembly to help collaborate on finding the best ways to address our problems.

World Snooker Championship 2026

Professional snooker's most prestigious tournament and one of Sheffield’s biggest sporting events, the World Championship returns with 32 of snooker’s best players competing in a knockout style tournament, 18 April - 4 May. 

Street Art

There are a number of street artists who live in Sheffield and make our walls into something beautiful for the city to be proud of. Their variety of styles can be seen here, as well as all over the world - and we have plenty of guest murals painted by artists who have visited Sheffield to create their own mark too.

Sheffield’s new independent retail hub, Leah's Yard opens to the public

The redeveloped Grade II* Listed Leah’s Yard on Cambridge Street has now opened its doors to the public, providing a contemporary city centre hub for some of Sheffield’s finest independent businesses.

Looping boat artwork unveiled on the Sheffield and Tinsley Canal

Created by artist Alex Chinneck, the impressive canal boat sculpture named 'The Industry' has been unveiled to celebrate Sheffield's historic waterways and industrial heritage. 

Evolution of electronic music

The cultural impact of electronic music is closely tied to Sheffield, whose late‑70s and early‑80s pioneers helped shape the genre as we know it. Today, the city’s artists, producers, performers and festivals continue to lead the way, pushing boundaries, shaping the industry and introducing audiences to new sounds and unforgettable experiences.
