Sean has been a consultant surgeon at Sheffield Children’s Hospital for 22 years. Recently, with the assistance and generous support of the Children’s Hospital Charity and colleagues, he has successfully led the installation of a state-of-the-art minimal access surgery facility. This is Keyhole surgery using 5mm telescopes and 3-5 mm instruments with 4K resolution ultra-high-definition TV screens (greater visualisation illumination and magnification). And for the patients this means less pain, smaller scars and quick recovery.
Sean joined the Ambassador programme in 2012 and first bid to host the British Association of Paediatric Surgeons conference in 2013. Although unsuccessful his ambition to host this event didn’t waiver (it was last in Sheffield in 1995) and with the continued support from the Ambassador Programme, our latest bid to host this conference was successful and the conference will take place in Sheffield in July 2024, where Sean will also take over as President of the Association.
