Easter Monday Duck Race at Endcliffe Park

01 Apr 2024 11:00 - 15:30

The annual Friends of the Porter Valley Duck Race returns on Easter Monday 1 April, for another family fun event in Endcliffe Park.

Come and watch as 2500 plastic ducks are launched into the Porter Brook, and encourage them on their way before they are collected at the finish line downstream.

There will also be stalls selling books, crafts, pizza, cakes and more,  as well as fairground stalls, dog agility training, and face painting.

The race itself starts promptly at 2pm but stalls on the green opposite Endcliffe Park Café will be open for business from 11am.

Prices

Free to attend, but racing ducks = £1 per duck or £5 for a family of 6.

Additional Information

How does it work?
A unique launching tower releases numbered plastic ducks into the brook just below the weir above Holme Wheel Dam. They float down the river for approximately 450 meters, where 40 ducks are then captured in the order they finish the race, via a specially designed finish line between the café and the playground.

You can buy ducks in advance, online or at the Endcliffe Park and Forge Dam cafés. They will also be on sale on the day of the race at the start and near the finish line.

The winning duck numbers will be posted on the FoPV website. All owners of winning ducks will be contacted in the days immediately following the race, using the details provided at the point of purchase.

The funds raised from the event will be used to replace the much-loved, but decaying, wooden ‘toad’ sculpture in Endcliffe Park with a similar sculpture, by the same artist, in more durable material.
